No More Cold Nights for Gogos, by Christopher Moagi

NEXT time load shedding strikes, these gogos from Dobsonville won’t despair. They will simply reach for their brand new, warm blankets. Just over 100 gogos from the Soweto kasi received the blankets at Nokuphila Clinic on Friday (7 August), thanks to a generous donation by Stadium Management SA (SMSA) and their Trust initiative.

An overjoyed Matshidiso Hlongwane (62) said: “I’m very happy that I got a new blanket. I will use it to cover my shoulders when I go to late prayers and to keep warm when watching TV.” Gogo Mirriam Lemekwane (71) said that she couldn’t wait to snuggle up under her new blanket. The gogos were also treated to a tasty breakfast by Pick n’ Pay.

SMSA spokesman Sisa Majola said that people of Dobsonville complained about constant power outages leaving them cold. “Such initiatives mean a lot to us. We love working with people and one of our big priorities is giving back to people,” Majola said.
