Stadium Management South Africa (SMSA) is a networking partner and sponsor in the eighth edition of the 2017 World Stadium Congress, which takes place from 21-24 May 2017 in Doha, Qatar.

The biggest global gathering of sports and stadia stakeholders has a host of invited guests that include the 2023 Rugby World Cup Committee, the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia and the 2022 FIFA World Cup Qatar host organising committee members, contractors and sporting federations.

Managing and commercialisation of facilities is among the list of topics on the discussion agenda.

SMSA is viewed as a business leader as it manages the multi-purpose FNB, Orlando, Dobsonville and Rand Stadiums in the City of Johannesburg Metropolitan Municipality, with the company carrying exclusive home venue rights with South African soccer giants Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates.

In addition to the national and global achievements in the last year – SMSA has been invited to receive the International Arch of Europe (IAE) in the platinum category acknowledged as a driving force for quality and business excellence at a convention in Frankfurt, Germany, on 30 June and 1 July 2017.

SMSA also earned three accolades with the Europe Business Assembly, winning the Manager of the Year, the Enterprise of the Year and the Europe Trading License at their awards function held in March this year.

On the domestic front, SMSA was awarded the Impumelelo Top Empowerment award that gives recognition to transformation that is endorsed by the South African government Trade and Industries Ministry.

The premier 2016 Carling Black Label Champion Cup held at FNB Stadium is also nominated for the Fan Experience of the Year in the Stadium Business Awards thaty will be staged in Dublin, Republic of Ireland, on 22 June.

This will be followed by a whirlwind trip to St. Thomas in the US Virgin Islands on 26 and 27 July, where SMSA will receive the 2017 BIZZ Award for Business Excellence, presented by the World Confederation of Businesses (WORLDCOB).

FNB Stadium was awarded the Sports Event of the Year award with the leading Stadium Business Awards and the gala function held in Barcelona, Spain, for the 2010 Fifa World Cup final that featured Spain and the Netherlands. It was watched by a global audience exceeding a billion viewers.
The SMSA –managed FNB Stadium (noted the world over for its unique Calabash-styled design and among the leading facilities in the world) was recognised for being a project that has contributed to the highest standards in property development in Southern Africa. This was after successfully staging the 2010 Fifa World Cup and a number of sold-out Soweto Derby fixtures featuring South African football giants, Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates.
FNB Stadium was the overall winner of the Southern African Institute of Civil Engineers (SAICE) awards Steel Construction Steel Awards for the geotechnical work done at the stadium.
