Stadium Management SA (SMSA) is pleased to announce a new annual pre-season fixture on the domestic football calendar, which will see South Africa’s top teams go head-to-head for bragging rights at the Shell Helix Ultra Cup. The event Rights Holders are Stadium Management South Africa while the fixture itself will be sponsored by Shell Downstream SA and forms part of a three-year agreement between the two parties. The first fixture will see Kaizer Chiefs take on current League Champions Mamelodi Sundowns at FNB Stadium on 21 July 2018. The three-year agreement will have the possibility for extension by the title sponsor, while broadcast rights have been picked up by SABC and associate sponsorships signed with Vodacom View+. In addition, Gauteng Provincial Government will assist with logistical arrangements as the host province.

Speaking at the launch of the Shell Helix Ultra Cup, CEO of SMSA, Dr. Jacques Grobbelaar said, “The concept to create a new annual fixture is not only an exciting idea, it also offers soccer fans another opportunity to see the best talent in South Africa on the FNB Stadium pitch, battling for the bragging rights to lift this trophy. For the first iteration of this fixture we have partnered with the Shell Helix Ultra team, as leaders in their industry, and we are aiming to bring an “Ultra” experience to the soccer fans who love these teams”.
The broadcast rights have been secured by SABC giving fans who cant attend the match access to watch the match at home, while Vodacom View+ will showcase their viewing platform by offering the opportunity for customers to live stream the Shell Helix Ultra Cup, providing a small sample of what to expect from the platform as it grows.

While the event is a new addition to the annual football calendar, SMSA along with its stakeholders have started the planning process for this event to ensure that spectators have an enjoyable experience at the stadium.
