One of Stadium Management South Africa’s Corporate Social Investment projects, the Soweto Motorbike Training School, has been going from strength to strength. The school trains roughly 64 people on a monthly basis at the Rand Stadium parking lot, and they recently took part in Nelson Mandela Day.
Founded by Alfred “King Donut” Matamela, the school dedicated their Mandela charity ride to the Soweto Kliptown Youth (SKY). In association with Yamaha SA, they donated a fridge, stove, chest freezer, 200 blankets, groceries worth R15,000, clothes and much more.
The ride began at the World of Yamaha in Sandton and stopped by many locations, including the FNB Stadium, Vilakazi Street and the Walter Sisulu Square in Kliptown. More than 300 bikes took part in the ride.
Matamela has trained more than 3000 riders and says he is passionate about empowering the youth.
