Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns will now lock horns on two occasions in October after an extra fixture between the two sides was confirmed in a press release today…
The two South African giants went head-to-head in the inaugural Shell Helix Ultra Cup game last year as a pre-season friendly before the 2018/19 season got underway, and it has now been confirmed that fans will be treated to the encounter once more in 2019.
Stadium Management South Africa announced today that Chiefs and Sundowns will battle it out at FNB Stadium in Johannesburg on October 12 in a couple of months’ time in a game that will serve as a nice appetiser ahead of their Absa Premiership encounter a couple of weeks later.
Masandawana took bragging rights last time out as goals from Jeremy Brockie and Themba Zwane made sure that Bernard Parker’s goal was nothing but consolation, and the Amakhosi will no doubt be out to avenge that defeat this time around.
In a statement today, the Chairman of SMSA Tournaments , Dr. Jacques Grobbelaar, said, “The 2019 Shell Helix Ultra Cup is going to be a spectacular match day between Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns. SMSA Tournament and Shell Downstream South Africa can assure fans of an incredible match day experience. Both teams are ready, and we will once again head to FNB Stadium to see who lifts the cup on 12 October 2019.”
The two teams will meet once again on October 27, with this game likely to add some spice to that Absa Premiership occasion as both teams gun for silverware in the season ahead.
