
OBJECTIVE: SMSA TRAINING ACADEMY
- The training academy will offer industry and company-specific bursaries to address the shortage of skilled workers/providers in our industry.
- To assist Stadium Management and all other stakeholders that invest in the academy to achieve their BBBEE objectives, as set out in their BBBEE Plan i.e., Skills Development, Enterprise, and Supplier Development, as well as Socio Economic Development.
- Assist the members in our surrounding communities to obtain education and a formal qualification.
- Once they obtained the qualification, assist in crating job opportunities for them in our stadiums and other related government entities and service providers.
WHY: SKILLS DEVELOPMENT
- Fundamentally, to grow the population-based on Economically Active South Africans.
- The proposed solution is to initiate and deliver a Skills Development Program which focuses on:
- Employability
- Mentorship
- Work Experience
- NB: Absorption will only be recognized on completion/end of the learnership programs.
- Absorbed/Absorption meaning:
- The learner receives a formal permanent contract of employment.
- The learner receives a long-term (minimum 12 months) contract of employment.
- Proceed with further education and training at a higher NQF aligned program.
WHAT: SKILLS DEVELOPMENT
- Developing the Skills of Black African, Coloured, Indian and Chinese.
- The Skills Development Element of the B-BBEE Scorecard measures the extent to which the measured entities carry out initiatives.
- The initiatives are designed to develop competency, both within and outside the measured entity.
- Skills development, entails the following Learning Programs or Skills Developing Programs:
- Learnerships
- Apprenticeships
- Internships
- Skills Programs
- Work Integrated Learning (WIL) Programs
- Bursaries
- Special Programs i.e., Mentorship, Candidate professionals
WHAT: PROGRAMME CONSTRUCTION
- Learnerships are work based learning and SAQA aligned programs that lead to an NQF Level registered qualification.
- The learnership will run for a minimum period of 6 to 18 months, depending on the outcomes of the different learnerships.
- Three(3) parties will be involved in the process;
- the employer
- the learner
- the registered training provider, recognized by the relevant SETA.
- The program will involve theoretical and practical training elements with the main objective of getting the learner placed or absorbed post the learnership contract.
- The proposed list of SETA and SAQA accredited training courses will focus on the areas which aligns to the direct needs of SMSA and the FNB Stadium precinct:
- Hygiene and Cleaning services
- Health and Safety
- Facilities Management
- Stadium Maintenance
- New Venture Creation (SMME)
- Landscaping and Pitch Maintenance
- Security
- Hosting and Hospitality
- The sector-specific training implemented will be adapted to align to the Funding entity’s sector.
WHO: DEMOGRAPHICS
- Unemployed learners aged between 18 to 36 years old based in Soweto and surrounding areas:
- Black Male & Female
- PWD (Disability)

- Local councilors structures and/or the local community Youth & Economic Development networks
MANAGEMENT ENTITY
- SMSA Employee Shareholders Trust consist of a 100% ownership in Stadium Management Training Academy.
- Stadium Management and any other clients, will be dealing with a small business which is:
- 100% black owned and 51% black women owned.
- The SMSA Training Academy will be managed by the Training Academy Manager appointed by the SMSA Employee Shareholders Trust
MANAGEMENT ENTITY: SMSA TRUST
- The Trust started operating in 2010 between SMSA and the City of Johannesburg (CoJ) on the following aspects: social economic development, skills development and enterprise development.
- SMSA’s contribution towards the Trust started from 2010; whenas a gesture of goodwill, donations and contributions were made if there were requests from communities or other organisations.
- The SMSA Trust receives its funds from Stadium Management South Africa (Pty) Limited by way of a 10% distribution of the annual net profit after tax for the benefit of community development and skills transfer programmes, skills development programmes as well as a 5% distribution of the annual net profit after tax for the SMSA Employee Shareholder Trust.

- An external partner will be appointed to moderate each learnership to ensure that the requirements are in line with the different SETA’s criteria and per requirement.
- Recruitment services to the Academy would adhere to the aim and objectives of the curriculum.

- The Academy will partner with a black owned companies to conduct the theoretical part of the learnerships.

SMSA Training Academy
Learnership Programme In Security Skills Grade E and D will commence on 12 April 2021.
The 50 learners involved were sourced via local community structures with the involvement of local councillors.
All were screened and vetted by an Howard as an independent service provider,
